Verizon has officially announced that it will offer the first QHD-equipped smartphone, the LG G3, on July 17. The carrier is taking preorders and will sell it for $99 with a new 2-year contract for a limited time.
When it comes to a smartphone manufacturer that has stepped up its game in the last few years and has produced some of the most successful smartphones in the U.S., LG fits the bill with last year's flagship G2. The company is getting ready for its 2014 flagship smartphone, LG G3, to make its official debut in the U.S.
Just as LG received support from Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile to offer the G2 in a near-simultaneous launch window, all major carriers are promising to sell the LG G3 in the very near future. Sprint has already committed to a launch date, along with T-Mobile and AT&T. Verizon is the last of the big four to announce its LG G3 release date, and it's also using a slick tactic to entice customers to choose its version of the G3, which just so happens to support the carrier's faster 4G XLTE network.
For a limited time, Verizon is charging $99.99 for the LG G3 to customers who want to preorder the QHD smartphone and receive it by July 17. This is currently $100 cheaper than AT&T's $199.99 price tag with a new 2-year contract and Verizon will sweeten the deal by also including free overnight shipping to guarantee you're first on the block with the LG G3.
The LG G3 features impressive specs and features. It is the first smartphone to ship with a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS (in-plane switching) display, with four times the resolution of HD displays, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Current reviews have praised the quality and clarity of the display, which is also ultrasharp with its 538 pixel per pinch (ppi) density. The handset is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and has an impressive 3 GB of RAM.
The LG G3 is also the first smartphone to feature laser autofocus with its on-board camera. It boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS+ (optical image stabilization) and the ability to record 4K Ultra HD video at 120 frames per second. It also has a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and full HD camcorder. It has a large 3,000 mAh removable battery and the smartphone includes 32 GB of internal storage and microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards.
If you're interested in preordering the Verizon LG G3 and saving $100 in the process, head to the carrier's online store. There you can choose the handset in choice of black or white for $99.99 when signing a new 2-year contract or $29.99 per month for 20 months using Verizon EDGE.
