Anthony Davis's stat line of 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game—en route to leading the New Orleans Pelicans to the playoffs last season—should let fans know that the All-Star power forward is on the brink of becoming the best player in the NBA.
It's why NBA 2K16 didn't hesitate putting Davis atop its list of Top 10 Power Forwards with a 92 player rating. His rating was four more points than Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin and San Antonio Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge, who both carry an 88 rating, five more than Spurs' Tim Duncan (87) and six more than Chicago Bulls' Pau Gasol (86) to round out the first five.
If there's one gripe about Davis's rating, it's that it could have arguably been even higher than 92.
By far, he's the most dominating power forward on both ends of the floor and that could have spelled a few extra points being added onto his rating, pushing it to 94 or even 95.
Then again, perhaps NBA 2K wanted to make sure that LeBron James, the top-rated small forward and overall player with a 94 rating, carried a higher rating than anyone else. After putting the Cleveland Cavaliers on his back last season, nearly averaging a triple-double in the NBA Finals, it's easy to understand why.
All that's left now is for NBA 2K to rank its centers. Expect DeMarcus Cousins to be sitting atop that pile soon.
