In early June, news broke about Spike Lee directing NBA 2K16's MyCareer mode, giving gamers a beefier storyline and more cinematic feel.
Well, just over two months later on Monday (August 10) and 2K has unleashed one of its MyCareer trailers, documenting the unlikely rise of Stephen Curry from counted-out Division I prospect and doubted starting NBA point guard to league MVP and champion...all set to the narration of Lee.
"This is a story played beyond the shadows. Going beyond the shadows cast by your height, your doubters and every major-conference school...until you start casting your own shadows over scoring leaders, top-seeded tourney teams and All-Americans," the famed movie director says in the trailer over a combination of amateur and NBA footage and NBA 2K16 game footage. "But some shadows don't die so easy. So, you practice hard, play hard and eventually you're playing beyond the shadows and casting your own. So, what will your story be?"
The trailer serves as the first of three for the game's cover-subject stars: Golden State Warriors' Curry, New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis and Houston Rockets' James Harden. These trailers are also the main highlights for the game's story mode, MyCareer.
2K spokesperson Ryan Peters told USA Today in June that Lee shot a total of 90 minutes of "cinematic narrative" for the interactive feature, resulting in about 12 hours of in-game drama.
NBA 2K16 is available for pre-order on September 25 with the official release to follow September 29.
