NBA 2K16 just keeps getting better and better.
On Thursday afternoon (August 6), 2K jumped on its official Twitter account to make a rather apt announcement on Throwback Thursday.
New, old teams if you will, as 2K will announce new throwback teams to be featured in the game every Thursday. The minds behind 2K started with the 2002-03 Dallas Mavericks and the 1999-2000 Portland Trail Blazers as their first offerings. Solid choices, considering that Mavs' team won 60 games and featured the one-two punch of Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki.
Meanwhile, that Trail Blazers' squad had the likes of Scottie Pippen, Steve Smith, Rasheed Wallace and Damon Stoudemire, but blew a 3-1 Western Conference Finals lead over the Los Angeles Lakers, beginning Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant's three-peat reign as NBA champions from 2000-02.
Which throwback squads will be announced next? As these initial choices show, the teams didn't have to win the NBA championship to be featured in NBA 2K16, but did have to leave their footprints on the league in a memorable way.
Any way one views it, 2K just keeps pouring on the heavy anticipation for the game's September 29 release, having just released official screen shots of Anthony Davis, James Harden and Stephen Curry from the new title on Wednesday (August 5).
And the hype continues ...
