Spike Lee narrating Stephen Curry's journey from counted-out Division I college basketball prospect and doubted starting NBA point guard to league MVP and champion amassed over 633,000 YouTube views in just a few days.
Now, it's James Harden's turn. In continuing his narration of NBA 2K16 cover athletes – Curry, Harden and Anthony Davis – the famed director tells the Houston Rockets All-Star shooting guard's climb out of humble beginnings in California to NBA greatness. It's all part of Lee directing NBA 2K16's MyCareer mode, injecting it with a more cinematic, story-telling vibe and the theme of "Believe."
"This is a story about believing in a dream that only you can see in a city where you have no choice but to believe," Lee says to begin telling Harden's story, which includes footage of the NBA star before his signature beard.
"Wherever you play, whatever your height, whenever it counts... until your belief has got you further than anyone has expected — Sixth Man and the face of a franchise. Until the story of believing no longer belongs to you alone, but to an entire city.
"So..." Lee adds with emphasis, "what will your story be?"
Between the Curry story and now Harden's account, these clips are likely to only stir more anticipation for the release of the new title. That, and Davis' story hasn't even been revealed yet.
Lee captured 90 minutes of cinematic narrative for the MyCareer feature, which spells about 12 hours of in-game drama.
Available for pre-order on September 25, NBA 2K16 will officially hit stores September 29.
