For months now, NBA 2K16 has been hitting the Internet hard with everything from action-packed gameplay footage over rap anthems to classic teams that will be available in the game and even Spike Lee-directed trailers.
Still, EA Sports' NBA Live 16 may have an area where it edges its competitor: face-scanning. Continuing to bank on the feature in hopes that it's a hit with gamers, EA let loose of its GameFace HD scanning tutorial online video earlier this week.
The one-minute, 16-second clip shows how simple and rather seamless it is to scan your face into the game as a playable character. The tutorial starts off showing Oklahoma City Thunder point guard and NBA All-Star MVP Russell Westbrook getting scanned, before flashing to a fan going through the same process.
The steps are easy. Simply remove your glasses or hat, find a well-lit area without direct sunlight or shadows, hold your smartphone steady and scan your face within the outlined area by rotating your head to the right, middle and left. That's it — you're all done.
Your face is ready to be uploaded into NBA Live 16 using the game's mobile app with full character customization a few thumb taps away. The feature could be an area in which EA Sports edges 2K. Although 2K has its own face-scanning option, its feature in NBA 2K15 had its fair share of problems delivering realistic outcomes, even becoming the butt of Internet jokes for its results.
Both NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K16 are scheduled for a September 29 release. Which title are you going to grab?
