Analysts are beginning to ask whether Apple's iPad and its tablet domination could be on its way out after companies are rolling out innovative and unique tablets. The latest, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S has a number of observers questioning if Apple's failure to deliver new and forward-thinking iPads has left the door open for others to take over the mantle of the tablet market.
The new high-resolution Super AMOLED screen that comes with the Galaxy Tab S tablets is garnering much attention, especially considering it is lighter and has better resolution than the existing iPads on the market. With the tablet sector becoming one of the most important and largest among the device world, Samsung's new tablet has many expecting great things from Samsung.
The new tablet is currently live and can be purchased, showing that Samsung is not planning to move slowly on this new sector development.
"This new tablet [has] raised the tablet viewing experience," said DJ Lee, head of sales and marketing for the communications division at Samsung Electronics, at an event in New York City's Madison Square Garden.
"It's simply beautiful, like joy," Lee said.
The Korean company aims to jolt the tablet market with devices it claims will have better contrast and picture than the existing iPads on the market. Apple currently employs a Retina display that is 2048 by 1536 pixels, while Samsung's AMOLED technology delivers 2560 by 1600 pixel resolution.
The display itself, Samsung hopes, will push it beyond the iPad as the world's most sought after tablet, by using the Super AMOLED technology that best reproduces colors, while the traditional LCDs have backlighting and filters that Samsung argues does not give the best and most pristine images.
"With Super AMOLED, each and every pixel is alive," Michael Abary, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics North America said, adding that the reds, greens and blues are brighter and more accurate than on traditional LCDs.
Overall, as a marketing tool, Samsung is banking on their new tablets size and weight will also be a winner in the market. With two different versions currently available, both of which are lighter than the iPads of similar size, Samsung is promoting their tablets as the best alternative to Apple and believes that it will take the market by storm with the launch.
