Samsung Electronics America rolled out two tablet versions in its new flagship Galaxy Tab S product line on Thursday.
The new devices in 8.4 and 10.5 inches boast of an supreme viewing experience through the world's very first high-resolution display of Super AMOLED, combined with the lightest and thinnest tablet design.
“We know consumers want the best screen when purchasing a tablet, and as an undisputed leader in display technology, we’ve brought our industry-leading Super AMOLED screen to the Tab S for an unrivaled viewing experience in both connected and Wi-Fi options,” Gregory Lee, CEO and president of Samsung Electronics North America Headquarters and Samsung Telecommunications America, says in a statement.
Since display is a significant factor of consumers when purchasing tablets, the company says it designed Galaxy Tab S with screen style and quality in mind, in its commitment to deliver a highly immersive viewing experience for consumers. With its AMOLED display, the Galaxy Tab S offers broader color range, truer blacks, deeper contrast and a display technology that is adaptive, providing an enhanced viewing experience for users in any type of environment.
Portability and a comfortable experience despite of long periods of use are two other factors considered by the company. Both versions of the tablets are as thin as 6.6mm. The 8.4 inch version only weighs less than a pound.
Users can also customize tab settings as well as privacy features so it can share among all members of the family, such as Kids Mode that provides children easy access to child-friendly content and allows parents to control content and length of play that their child can access.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S also has the following features: Android KitKat 4.4 software; a built-in fingerprint sensor; 8MP rear camera; 16GB memory; microSD slot; updated SideSync that allows to make or receive calls from the tablet through phone connection as well as drag and drop documents from the phone to the Tab S; and Multi-Window that allows users to open two windows at once. The smaller version has 4,900mAh Li-ion battery, while the bigger one has 7,900mAh Li-ion battery.
The Galaxy Tab S tablets are also among the few selected Android devices in the U.S. that offer Netflix HD content viewing, says Samsung. The tablets include superior content and services said to be part of the unified Galaxy ecosystem that allows a seamless watching, collaborating, sharing and working on several devices.
Samsung says pre-orders for the Wi-Fi enabled Galaxy Tab S begins on June 13 and sells at $399.99 for 8.4 inch and $499.99 for 10.5 inch. It can be purchased at Samsung.com and other retail stores by July. The LTE versions will come to Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint later this year.
