When it comes to Nintendo at E3, the company is usually the last of the big three to show its wares to the gaming community, and nothing has changed at the 2014 event. However, this time around Nintendo has done a better job even though the company had a digital showing instead of being directly on the show floor.
Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo's E3 digital conference was short and sweet. The company revealed several Wii U and 3DS games, and instead of showing off a million trailers and leave gamers wanting, Nintendo focused a lot on how these games are played. It makes us want to pick up one of these games and get right in without seeing much of the actual content. The whole thing was cool, collective and lacking the flash and noise we've come to expect from both Sony and Microsoft.
Furthermore, Nintendo's conference was actually fun to watch. There were moments that were truly funny at times when the company showed off this Agent Smith vs. Neo brawl and some cool stop motion entertainment. Calm, collective and funny was the order of the day, and we loved it.
Apart from video games, Nintendo showed off a range of new toys called Amiibo. Now, this is no ordinary toy since it is capable of interacting with the Wii U. If a player buys a Mario or Zelda toy based on Amiibo, they can upload those characters to certain video games whenever the toy is placed on the Gamepad.
If this works, we expect to see Nintendo creating a completely new market that might attract the likes of Sony and Microsoft in the distant future.
The toys themselves can even contain the customizations and configurations of a specific character. And we are guessing once that particular toy is connected with another Gamepad from another system, the character should upload with the same customizations from the owner's own Wii U.
On the gaming front, Nintendo announced Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, alongside several other fun looking titles. They all stand out, but the best of all in our eyes is Zelda for the Wii U. Open world Zelda is finally here, and it looks absolutely wonderful. For those who thought the Wii U was an incapable system, think again because Nintendo is definitely out to prove the world wrong.
We have to say, Nintendo has taken the correct approach on how it delivers a compelling conference and how it moves to get gamers interested. It is the best conference out of all, and that's quite surprising for a company that is struggling to move Wii U units.
