Rumors of the Samsung Galaxy A8 have been surfacing in the smartphone market for a few months and now a hands-on video showcases the thinness of the handset.
The purported Samsung device has already passed via the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) as well as China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center, or TENAA, which means that customers will not have to wait long for the handset.
French website NoWhereElse has released a hands-on video of the Galaxy A8 along with some hardware specs. This might suggest that the launch of the smartphone is imminent.
From the hands-on video the Galaxy A8 seems similar to other Samsung smartphones but flaunts a very slim design. Samsung has many smartphones available in the market but the Galaxy A8 is supposed to be 0.23-inch, or 5.9mm, thin, which makes it the thinnest Samsung handset till date. The video showcases the thinness of the Galaxy A8 from all angles.
The Galaxy A8 may be thin enough to capture the eyes of many smartphone lovers but the handset also packs in some impressive specs. The Galaxy A8 will sport a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution and 386ppi. A 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and 2GB RAM will power the handset.
The upcoming Samsung smartphone is estimated to have 16GB of internal storage with the option to expand using a microSD card. The handset is rumored to be equipped with a 16MP primary camera. A large 3,050 mAh battery will power the device.
The Galaxy A8 is expected to come running on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The handset should receive future software updates such as Android M.
Samsung released the Galaxy A7 in February this year, which has specs lower than the Galaxy A8. The Galaxy A7 was not even released in the U.S. market. However, as the Galaxy A8 has passed through the FCC it makes sense that the handset will also be launched in the U.S.
The price and launch date of the Galaxy A8 is not known. However, market experts believe that the Galaxy A8 may be launched in the coming weeks rather than in September when the Korean smartphone maker is expected to showcase the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 5.
