Verizon Wireless is pushing out a software update albeit a minor one, for its variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
While this update is not Android 5.1 Lollipop - which Galaxy S5 users have been waiting for - it brings some tweaks to the software while keeping the core operating system. Samsung's Galaxy S5 is yet to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update so they will have to contend with the minor update till then.
The latest over-the-air (OTA) minor software update from Verizon brings a host of new features to users of the Galaxy S5, which will please owners of the device.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update that will improve the performance of your Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone," notes the carrier.
The software update has the version LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOD5 and brings several novel features Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 users' way. The new features include the GALAXY Apps, where the app store will be installed automatically to your device. This is a revamped version of Samsung Apps and GALAXY Apps would possibly have a far more extensive selection when compared to Samsung Apps.
The Verizon software update for Galaxy S5 also brings support for Fingerprint Authentication for unlocking Microsoft's Exchange Accounts. This is a more useful update when compared to the above mentioned one. Thanks to the update users will be able to unlock their smartphone when their Microsoft Exchange account acts as the device administrator.
The sensor strikes a fine balance between safety and convenience and will be welcomed by users who are pro additional security features.
These are the only additional features the new software update from Verizon will bring. The minor OTA update will probably be pushed out in phases as is usually the case and may take some time to make its way to your Galaxy S5.
To check manually for the software update on your Verizon Galaxy S5, navigate to Settings> About Device > Software Update > Check for updates.
