Motorola Droid Turbo Set To Receive Android 5.1 Lollipop Update On June 10

Come June 10, the wait for Motorola Droid Turbo users in the U.S will finally be over. The Verizon Wireless exclusive smartphone will finally get a taste of Android 5.1 Lollipop after languishing on Android 4.4 KitKat all this while.

Earlier in March this year, we had reported that Motorola's Luciano Carvalho had let on that its Motorola Droid Turbo would bypass Android 5.0 Lollipop and jump straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop instead.

Motorola chose to skip the Android 5.0 update for the Droid Turbo due to lack of VoLTE support (and not bugs), which is a pertinent feature for Verizon-based smartphones.

However, now per a Twitter post from Android Police's David Ruddock, the Droid Turbo will get updated with the Android 5.1. Lollipop update on Wednesday, June 10. The update will be an over-the-air (OTA) one and have the build number 23.11.33.

The software update will bring features from both Android 5.0 and Android 5.1 Lollipop users' way.

The new features and enhancements include a new Material Design UI, new Recent Apps page, battery saver mode that deploys Project Volta, a two-finger Quick Settings menu, better lockscreen notifications, improved security features, Android ART runtime etc.

While the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will also bring several bug fixes for issues prevalent in Android 5.0, Motorola has said previously that this does not mean that Android 5.1 will be free from bugs and issues.

"With thousands of different environment conditions and thousands of usage variations, currently, it's nearly impossible to make it bug free," Carvalho has noted previously.

It is also not known if the Motorola update will fix the issues users have been facing with the Droid Turbo's 3,900mAh battery.

Since the Android 5.1 Lollipop software update from Motorola is being pushed out in phases, it may not hit the Droid Turbo on the same day as it releases. To manually check on June 10 if one have received the update, navigate to Settings> About Device > Software Update > Check for updates.
