T-Mobile Rolls Out Sony Xperia Z3 Android Lollipop Update With Band 12 Support

Do you own a T-Mobile variant of the Sony Xperia Z3 phablet? Good news as T-Mobile is now rolling out the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop software update for the smartphone.

True to its promise, T-Mobile has just started pushing out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3 (post-midnight Pacific).

On June 2, 2015, Des Smith - T-Mobile's senior product manager - had revealed on Twitter that the carrier would be pushing out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3.

Smith also revealed that the software update brings support for LTE Band 12 for the Xperia Z3. This feature makes the Sony Xperia Z3 among the handful of T-Mobile smartphones to offer support for the network operator's 700MHz spectrum. The support for LTE Band 12 will give the owners of the Xperia Z3 more penetration in areas which support the band.

Xperia Z3 owners will also benefit from new features and enhancements such as revamped notifications, new security features, improved lockscreen, multi-tasking window and a Material Design overhaul courtesy of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Earlier in May this year, T-Mobile updated its software page with the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z1's status being shown as entered into the testing phase for the software update. This hinted that the software update for the Xperia Z3 was not far away.

Now with T-Mobile pushing out the Android 5.0 Lollipop over-the-air update for Xperia Z3, subscribers can finally get a taste of Lollipop. T-Mobile is the only network operator in the U.S. to retail the Sony smartphone

In April, T-Mobile stopped retailing the Xperia Z3 barely 6 months of its launch, only to bring back the smartphone a few weeks later at a discounted price.

Since the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3 is an OTA one, it may take time to hit the devices. To manually check if one received the software update for the Xperia Z3, head to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Check for updates.
