Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z3 Dual users will now get a taste of the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
On Monday, April 13, Sony Mobile announced the software rollout on its official blog.
"Our Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade continues from today for Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra," stated Sony.
In October 2014, Sony Mobile said that its Xperia Z lineup would benefit from Google's latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update, with the Z2 and Z3 devices being the first to get the upgrade.
"We've been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our Z Series devices as we can, as quickly as we can. We're really excited about the new Sony features and functionality and the improvements we've made to the user experience," said the company at the time.
Sony Mobile pushed out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact in March.
The company also said that the global rollout for the dual-SIM variants of the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 will be pushed out next week.
After this, it will be the turn of the smartphones from the company's original Xperia Z lineup, which include the Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Xperia ZL. The Xperia Tablet Z is also in line for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, which will be rolled out in "a few weeks time," said Sony Mobile.
Even though Sony Mobile has started pushing out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z3 Dual smartphones, the availability of the software update will depend on individual local carriers in different markets worldwide.
Not all of Sony Mobile's Lollipop upgrades have been viewed as glad tidings by Xperia device owners. After waiting for almost a month for the update, owners of Xperia phones that are not from the Z series learned their handsets would not be included in the upgrade. This led to a barrage of tweets from device owners asking Sony Mobile for an explanation.
