Lucasfilm and mobile game developer Kabam have announced a new game they've collaborated on that should be of great interest to fans waiting for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Star Wars: Uprising is set a short time after Return of the Jedi, where both Darth Vader and the Emperor are dead, the Death Star has been destroyed and the galaxy is reacting to this sudden vacuum of power. The game takes place in an area of the galaxy called the "Anoat Sector," which is where Hoth and Bespin (home to Cloud City) are both located.
According to Kabam's description, Uprising finds the Anoat Sector barricaded from the rest of the galaxy by the "Iron Blockade" — and the Rebel Alliance is on the outside. The Imperial forces still inside the Sector attempt to quell reports of the Empire's fall and maintain control through power and brutality. So the smugglers, bounty hunters, gangsters and freedom fighters of Anoat Sector have no choice but to team up to form a rebellion of their own.
Star Wars: Uprising is a real-time strategy/role-playing game for mobile devices. You'll start by creating and designing your own character from classes like Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Rebel Guerilla, Diplomat, Gambler and more. From there, you can go on missions, recruit a crew of your own, explore the Sector, and fight in large-scale battles. Along the way, you'll build up skills and acquire gear, all of which are highly customizable with hundreds of options.
The game's official website touts it as your chance to "become the next Han Solo, Boba Fett or an entirely unique hero of your own design." Sounds like fun to us.
Co-op is a major component of the game as well, so you'll be able to team up with others as you play. Players all over the globe will participate in massive battles that cover all of Anoat Sector, the outcome of which Kabam says will decide the direction the game takes in the future, including the addition of new content like more planets, gear and characters.
There's no release date, gamers who pre-register at the game's website get to participate in beta testing, vote for in-game content and maybe win some real-world prizes.
