The Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is now expected to encourage unvaccinated Americans, especially those still hesitant, to be vaccinated.
As of press time, various health experts and agencies are worried about the worsening Omicron subvariant infections across the United States.
Now, the Novavax medicine is expected to ease the rising infected cases.
Previously, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) allowed the use of the new COVID-19 vaccine for 18 years old and above patients.
Thanks to CDC's decision, four safe COVID-19 vaccines are now available to the public.
Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine Best Option for Unvaccinated People?
According to ABC News' latest report, COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations across the U.S. are still increasing. Even U.S. President Joe Biden contracted the disease.
This only shows that any American can be infected with the novel coronavirus.
Because of this, health experts are making extra efforts to encourage more U.S. residents to get vaccinated, especially those who haven't received their first vaccine shots.
They explained that unvaccinated people not only put themselves at risk but also endanger individuals around them.
"More people need to roll up their sleeves, particularly as we confront BA.5," said Biden.
Now, experts believe that Novavax might change the perception of unvaccinated individuals, encouraging them to get their first vaccine shots finally. But how?
Why Novavax COVID-19 Vaccine?
USA Today reported that Novavax showed around 90% efficiency in symptomatic COVID-19 patients. This result was seen in Britain, Mexico, as well as the United States.
Aside from its effectiveness, many health researchers also explained that this COVID-19 vaccine is a more traditional protein-based medicine.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated that hesitant unvaccinated Americans can now have a vaccine built on different technology.
On the other hand, Dr. Shira Doron, an infectious disease physician at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, said that Novavax could protect people from severe COVID-19 symptoms.
However, the demand for this COVID-19 vaccine is still low.
Previously, CDC shared its concern about the U.S. COVID-19 vaccine utilization.
Meanwhile, experts said that new COVID-19 variants would continue circulating throughout the summer of 2022.
