Production for the third season of Stranger Things is underway, Netflix announced in a new video showing the cast in what appears to be a table read.
It comes nearly five months after the streaming company renewed the wildly popular series for yet another season.
Just last month, Netflix announced new additions to the cast, including Cary Elwes, who'll be playing corrupt Mayor Kline; Jake Busey, who'll be playing Bruce, a reporter for Hawkins Post; and Maya Hawke, who'll be playing Robin, but not much is currently known about this character.
What To Expect In 'Stranger Things' Season 3
Among those returning are Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, Sadie Sink as Max, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin, and Noah Schnapp as Will — or "old friends," as the video calls their pack — though there wasn't really any doubt whether they'd be reprising their roles. The teenagers, including Dacre Montgomery as Billy, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan, Natalie Dyer as Nancy, and Joe Keery as Steve, are also returning. So are the adults of the show, including Cara Buono as Karen, Winona Ryder as Joyce, and David Harbour as Hopper. Many more are slated to return, however — these were simply the cast members highlighted in Netflix's teaser.
Expect Priah Ferguson, who plays the annoying but sweet Erica Sinclair, to have a meatier role in the upcoming season. Ferguson's stint last season was brief, although her scenes were some of the most memorable. The producers have promised an increased role for her in Season 3, alongside her own group of friends.
In terms of possible stories, executive producer Shawn Levy has revealed that fans will get to see Mike and Eleven, and also Lucas and Max, explore their relationships a bit further.
He also previously hinted that fans will see more of Steve in the next season.
Stranger Things premiered in July 2016 as part of Netflix's original programming lineup, to astonishing acclaim and popularity. It received 18 nominations in the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer were also nominated for writing and directing, alongside Harbour and Brown for their performances.
Stranger Things Season 3 Release Date
Season 3 will consist of eight episodes, as TV Line reports. Season one had the same number of episodes, though Season 2 had nine. Netflix has yet to reveal a streaming date, but it's worth mentioning that Season 2 arrived in October 2017.
