The Overwatch open beta is about to be available to every gamer out there, and along with the news comes a new teaser that provides a backstory to the world.
Straight off the bat, the video features Winston, and he tells the story of what happened to the Overwatch - after a couple of wacky attempts at addressing the viewer in a dramatic tone, that is.
The story starts great, showcasing how the team are saving people from the Omnics, AI-powered robots originally created to help humans but have turned against them. However, when the heroes have finally brought an end to the Omnic Crisis, the citizens thought that they no longer have a purpose and even went so far as to call them criminals.
As for what exactly happened, the genetically engineered gorilla did not explain, but it could be linked to when Tracer went head-to-head with Widowmaker, resulting in the successful assassination of the Omnic monk Tekharta Mondatta.
Meanwhile, the early access beta already went up on May 3, and players who preordered or pre-purchased Overwatch before April 29 can join in the fun. The regular open beta will start from May 4 at 4 p.m. PDT until May 9 at 10 a.m. PDT, and just to be clear on that, everyone can take the game out for a spin during that time.
Going over what the beta has in store, players will get to enjoy all in-game content, including the 21 heroes, four game modes, 12 maps and even the launch-day features: Custom Games, Loot Boxes and Weekly Brawl.
"We want players to get a feel for the complete Overwatch experience, so no content will be restricted or locked," Blizzard says.
Overwatch is set to fully roll out across the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 24.
