Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Confirmed To Include Large 3,600 mAh Battery: FCC Report

If there was any doubt Samsung wouldn't improve battery life on its upcoming Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, there's no need to worry. An FCC filing for the Galaxy S7 Edge confirms it will ship with a large 3,600 mAh battery.

As Samsung is preparing for its Feb. 21 Unpacked event that will kick off Mobile World Congress 2016, the company is witnessing many of the surprises it had in store for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge get confirmed by other entities. Many smartphone fans have been hoping the company would address the major shortcomings of last year's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge which were pointed out in multiple reviews.

When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge last year, it introduced a new design language that consisted of premium glass and metal, in place of its inexpensive plastic. While the new build felt great in the hand and no longer felt cheap, the new materials and design forced Samsung to remove three popular features its previous flagship smartphone included; a micoSD expansion slot, removable battery, and waterproof case.

We reported back in November that Samsung was planning on bringing back a microSD expansion slot to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. It was the first sign the company was going to address the issues consumers were unhappy to have seen removed in the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S5 owners love that their handsets include a removable battery, microSD expansion slot, and remain the only previous Galaxy S flagship to feature a waterproof case. That feature will now return to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, according to many recent reports.

While many will applaud Samsung for bringing back some missed features, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will still not allow users to replace their batteries, most likely due to their ultra-thin design and metal and glass build. Both handsets are going to ship with much larger, although non-removable batteries.

A new FCC filing confirms Samsung will make sure users aren't worried about short battery life, which plagued the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The discovered documents confirm the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will boast a large 3,600 mAh battery.

The larger battery will certainly play a key role in the rumored "Always On Display", which is believed to work by displaying the time and notifications on the smartphone's home screen without the user needing to wake the device.

We'll keep you posted on any additional details regarding the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge as they become available. Are you planning on purchasing the 5.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S7 or 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge? Let us know in the comments below.
