Google Is Giving Away 2GB Of Free Drive Storage If You Complete Account Security Checkup

Want 2 GB worth of free Drive storage? If so, all you have to do is complete your Google account security checkup.

The process only takes a few minutes, and it's fairly easy to do, not to mention it really is something users have to do to stay safe online.

How To Complete Your Google Account Security Checkup

Step 1: Head on over to the Google security checkup page.

Step 2: Fill in the Recovery email field and set a Recovery phone and Security question.

Note: Google will send you the verification code via a text message.

Step 3: Check your connected devices and keep an eye out for anything suspicious. When everything seems to be in order, confirm it by clicking on Looks good.

Step 4: Do a quick check on your account permissions. You'll be able to remove some apps or websites here that you're no longer using or anything else that seems amiss. Click on Done to proceed.

Step 5: Check your 2-Step Verification settings.

Note: The free 2 GB of storage might not immediately reflect on your account, but once it does, it'll be there permanently.

After that, you're all done. Quick and easy, huh? Now, you've got yourself some good ol' 2 GB storage space free of charge. Also, in case you're wondering, no, there's no hidden agenda or ulterior motive behind it.

Google says that this giveaway is part of the celebration of Safer Internet Day 2016, which is an event that Insafe organizes every February to keep online users safe on the Internet, particularly children.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as Google did do the very same thing during the Safer Internet Day of 2015.

Google hasn't published the details of the bargain yet, but it should make a blog post on the Drive page soon enough. There's also a chance that this offer will last for about a week, the same as last year.

It's also worth mentioning that Google is more than determined to keep users' files safe on Drive, investing $1 million for security research grants. On top of that, the company will also continue offering $20,000 to anybody who spots any issue on the platform.
