Google Drive Gets Improved Search To Help You Find Files Easier

Google desires to make searching files on its Google Drive a piece of cake.

The Mountain View-based tech titan gave its Google Drive a considerable update on Dec. 9, to make the app's search feature on iOS, Android and the Web perform better than ever before.

"When you store important files in Google Drive, they're not only safe, they're accessible from any device," notes Google. "And finding them again from any device should be better results - even faster."

While the latest version of Google Drive can already be downloaded via Apple's App Store and Google Play, be aware, nevertheless, that the newly added features will be rolled out in the succeeding weeks. As such, it is likely that you might not see the modifications yet.

Four Enhancements

Google is throwing in four significant improvements to make searching files as easy as one-two-three:

- With the use of an iOS search, users can be able to search Google Drive, without opening up the Google Drive application.

- With the use of 3D Touch on iOS, users will soon be able to gain access to their recent files or search Google Drive directly from the home screen.

- Users can now open up the advanced search instantaneously from the search box.

- Users can now narrow their searches to a file type from the search box on iOS, Android and the Web.

That's not all Google is throwing in. It likewise mentioned behind-the-scenes enhancements to get more specific results.

- It is now possible to search for shared files by keying in the name or email address of the file owner.

- One can also use advanced search options, such as word the file contains, date it was modified or who it was shared with, to home in on the file.

In the meantime, Google also unveiled a new image bookmarking tool earlier this month, allowing users to access the images they found via Google Image Search without having to perform another image search again. The new feature, though, is only rolled out within the United States. Furthermore, this feature permits users to organize their starred images into folders.
