Oppo F1 Launches As Cheap Mid-Ranger With Powerful Cameras: Preorders Open Now

Oppo has a new smartphone for the masses, introducing the affordable Oppo F1 mid-ranger for selfie lovers.

Chinese OEMs are on the rise and a wide range of budget-friendly devices are already available on the market, with one more now joining the party.

A few years ago, Oppo stirred lots of interest with its Oppo Find 5 smartphone, which it touted as the first 1080p full HD smartphone. The Oppo Find 5 made its debut back in December 2012 and launched commercially in early 2013, at a time when full HD resolution on a smartphone was indeed something amazing.

Full HD smartphones are now common and Oppo's offerings are no longer that innovative, but the company is nonetheless keen on grabbing a share of the smartphone market. An Oppo A30 dropped by TENAA early this month, signaling that the company was still cooking up something.

The Chinese OEM has now officially launched its latest smartphone, but it's not the A30. Instead, the company has unveiled a mid-range Oppo F1 handset, and has already opened up preorders. The device comes with a $249 price tag and bundles a free Oppo Selfie Stick to further sweeten the deal.

When it comes to specs, the Oppo F1 sports a 5-inch IPS HD display (1,280 x 720p) with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 protection, an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor running at 1.7GHz, an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit (GPU), and 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM at 1,866MHz.

The handset further features a 13-megapixel main camera with an f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash, and an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture and selfie-friendly features such as Beautify 3.0, live color filters, and other. The Oppo F1 packs 16 GB of internal storage space and a 2,500 mAh Li-Po battery to keep things up and running. On the software side, the device runs the company's ColorOS 2.1 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Other highlights of the Oppo F1 include a slim aluminum body that makes it look and feel premium, dual-SIM support, 4G LTE connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and micro-USB.

"Say #HelloMetal, say hello to the new OPPO F1. The F1 comes with impressive specs, beautiful design and a 249 USD price tag," Oppo touts on its product page.

According to the company, the camera-focused Oppo F1 will start shipping by February.
