"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is definitely tracking to become the biggest movie of 2015. Already the film is breaking box office records in several areas. However, we want to talk about a particular character, a woman who goes by the name, "Rey."
We might dig into spoiler territory here, so if you have not yet watched "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," then grab your tail and run. If you have, well then, let's talk about this character and what she means for future films.
Not much is known of Rey, and even after the movie ended, we're still scratching our heads, trying to find out who is this lady, and how come she is so much of a badass. We do know that she was left on the planet called Jakku, and that is where she lived until she got caught up with Finn, the First Order, and the Resistance.
Due to her rough upbringing, she managed to garner some very practical fighting skills, and also the means to repair and fly ships. It's the reason she was able to fix the Millennium Falcon.
Rey is also Force Sensitive, which could prove that she was one of the two children sent to train with Luke Skywalker, the other being Kylo Ren.
We know who Kylo Ren's parents are, but whom does Rey belong to? Who brought her into this world? That's the big mystery, and we might not officially find out until Episode 8 in a few years.
Nevertheless, we can guess who Rey is until Disney decides to drop the ball.
Who are Rey's parents?
Let's get straight to it; Rey could be the daughter of Luke Skywalker. It is very much possible considering the fact that his lightsaber gravitated towards her, and she was strong enough to use the Force to grab before Kylo Ren after he took down Finn, we could be onto something here.
We should also point out that there needs to be a Skywalker to keep the essence of this new franchise going for the foreseeable future. The Skywalker family is as powerful as the name Star Wars itself, and this is one of the reasons why we believe Rey is indeed related to Luke, and he is her father.
As for her mother, that is something we are unable to pinpoint, but it could be anyone over the past 20-years. If we do find out, chances are we'll learn that she died.
There are other theories out there about her origins. One, in particular, claims she is actually Anakin Skywalker reincarnated, and supreme leader Snoke is Emperor Palpatine after finding a way to beat death, something he has been adamant to accomplish before his demise.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who Rey's parents are or what lineage she comes from. The character is great, not well written, but great, and that's enough for now as we prepare ourselves for the 8th episode in this never-ending saga.
