The amount of times The Simpsons have predicted the future is becoming downright spooky. We have seen show feature the storyline of Donald Trump's presidential campaign, Homer Simpson predict the mass of Higgs boson 14 years before its discovery and the show even foretold the bizarre Farmville craze.
However, many may not recall the time The Simpsons used a crystal ball in a prophecy about the seventh installment of the Star Wars franchise.
As pointed out on by the Imgur user Lying_Kat, The Simpsons (sort of) featured the latest Star Wars film in an episode back in 2009 titled "Homer the Whopper." However, what's even more mind-blowing is that the show was able to use its psychic powers to even get right the Star Wars film's box office competition — an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie.
Written by Seth Rogen (yes, Seth Rogen) and Evan Goldberg, the episode is about a Hollywood studio that makes a movie based on a comic book created by Comic Book Guy about the character "Everyman." Of course, Homer Simpson is cast as the lead role.
That brings us to where The Force Awakens and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip comes in. There is a scene outside the production company that owns the rights to the Everyman movie that displays movie posters for both Star Wars and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
However, the show puts a comedic spin on these movies, titling them Star Wars Episode VII: The Apology and Alvin and the Chipmunks 3: Gettin' Rabies!
It seems like a mere coincidence that these two films were battling it out side by side, especially since, in 2009, many may not have ever guessed a new Star Wars movie would ever materialize after the prequel trilogy had concluded. At this point in time, Disney had not yet bought Lucasfilm to suggest a reboot in the franchise would be a reality.
As for Alvin, The Road Chip is actually the fourth movie in its franchise. However, the third film, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked wouldn't be released until two years after "Homer the Whopper."
Even still, its safe to say that it is still crazy that The Simpsons was able to almost nail the future box office hits.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip were both released on Friday, Dec. 18.
