It is now official, Harry Potter fans: "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is the eighth Potter story and will be the very first to be shown on stage. J.K. Rowling has likewise revealed the West End play will focus on Harry's youngest son: Albus Severus.
When the Cursed Child was revealed in June, Rowling guaranteed the London production was certainly not a prequel to the crowd-pleasing series.
Aficionados, however, have kept on believing this stage play is not a prequel.
On Oct. 23, Rowling posted a tweet to clear things up. This play will be a sequel set 19 years after the story ends in her last book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
"[M]oments like this I wish I lived in [L]ondon," writes a Twitter user commenting on Rowling's post.
"JK, THIS JUST MADE MY YEAR. I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME AND HOW HAPPY I AM ABOUT THIS. I'm sobbing," another fan says..
Traveling Ginger, another Twitter user, however, asks how the fans will be able to continue to follow the story if they are not in England.
The Plot
The Pottermore site also has also given a treat to eager fans: the Cursed Child's plot.
"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children," reads the plot.
"While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places."
Two-part Show
Previously, the author explained that because of the "epic nature" of this play, it will be composed of two parts, giving theatergoers the option to watch the full spectacle in just one sitting or split it up into two viewings.
This show is slated to wow audiences in summer 2016 at the Palace theater in London. The production, though, has yet to reveal the actors who will act in the play. What we have, so far, is that it will be composed of 30 actors.
Interestingly, the producers of this highly anticipated West End show leaked that tickets will already go on sale on Oct. 28 for the June 2016 preview shows.
In the meantime, Warner Bros is set to release in November the "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them," a spinoff film which picks up 70 years prior to the first Harry Potter story.
