Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has started production but is generating even more excitement for fans as it rounds up its cast bit by bit, this time adding Ron Perlman to its fold.
Set 70 years before young Harry Potter finds out he's a wizard and steps into Hogwarts, Fantastic Beasts tells the adventures of Newt Scamander, the pre-eminent magizoologist of the wizarding world, who will be portrayed by Eddie Redmayne. Plot details are still fuzzy but sources say that Perlman will be playing a goblin.
The role might not be final at the moment but it's actually quite apt, given Perlman was, well, Hellboy. Then again, goblins in the wizarding world are not exactly the friendliest bunch, so Perlman might still have his work cut out for him, channeling their brand of nasty.
Aside from Redmayne, Perlman will be joining Jon Voight, Carmen Ejogo and Gemma Chan, who were revealed to be in the cast earlier, as well as Samantha Morton, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Ezra Miller and Katherine Waterston.
Aside from his stint in the Hellboy movies, Perlman is known for his work in Sons of Anarchy. Recently, he also starred in Hand of God, an Amazon series, and Stonewall, a civil rights drama by Roland Emmerich.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is one of the books Harry Potter was assigned during his stay in Hogwarts. It was eventually released as a standalone reference guide based on the movies, published in the form of a textbook penned by Scamander. Neither a prequel nor a sequel to Harry Potter's story, the movie will be based off Scamander's adventures as he travels the world studying magical beasts in the wizarding world.
The first of three films planned to be based on Scamander's work, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will have J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter author, as screenwriter. David Yates is also on board; he directed the last four of the Harry Potter movies. Shooting for the film has begun in the Warner Bros. Studios in the U.K., although the story itself will start out in New York.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is expected to hit theaters on Nov. 18, 2016.
