Beautiful and captivating, filled with breathtaking artwork, this stunning book is sure to become a treasured keepsake for fans of all ages," the book's Harper Collins description reads.
The character of Peter Pan was first used by Barrie in a section of his adult novel The Little White Bird. The "boy who never grew up" then took center stage in the author's stage play under the same name. The show premiered in London in Dec. 1904. It was widely received, and ran initially for nine whole years.
Barrie published a novel version of the play in 1911. Entitled Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, the book saw the return of Peter Pan, Wendy Darling and her brothers, Tinker Bell, the Lost Boys and Captain Hook. It has been said that the story was inspired the Llewelyn Davies boys, namely, George, John "Jack," Peter, Michael and Nicholas. Barrie had formed a close friendship with the family, even naming some characters after the boys themselves. Peter Pan, however, was based on Barrie's older brother, David, who lost his life in an ice-skating accident. He died a day before his 14th birthday and was constantly referred to by their mother as forever a boy.
The story of the boy who lived forever has been the basis for several movies, musicals, TV programs, ballets and merchandise. For $28, readers are entitled to 250 pages of the classic's full-color deluxe edition with ten exclusive interactive elements.
