Barnes & Noble has entered into a partnership with Samsung to offer a Nook-branded Galaxy Tab E tablet that will have a price tag of $250.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Barnes & Noble announced the Galaxy Tab E Nook that will have a 9.6-inch HD display with 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution. The tablet will run on an Android operating system with Nook software on top.
"We're excited to give our customers even more ways to experience reading and entertainment with the addition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E NOOK and its spacious large display," says Fred Argir, chief digital officer at Barnes & Noble.
Argir added that the company is proud to enter into a partnership with Samsung to offer the Galaxy Tab E Nook. The tablet offers convenience and comfort to customers while reading books, watching movies and more on the latest device.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz will power the Galaxy Tab E Nook. The new tablet will come with 16GB of on-board storage with the option to increase the memory to up to 128GB with a microSD card.
The latest Galaxy Tab E Nook will feature a 5MP front-facing camera and a 2MP rear-facing camera.
The newest Barnes & Noble tablet weighs 544 grams, or 1.2 lbs, and is just 0.33 inch thick. Purchasers of the tablet will get three Nook books as well as three Nook magazines from a wide range of titles for free. Customers will also get $5 as starter credit and the tablet also comes with free lifetime in-store support.
The Galaxy Tab E Nook is not the only Samsung device to join the Nook portfolio. The Galaxy Tab S2 Nook and the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook are other Samsung tablets that Barnes & Noble is offering.
The tablet is available from Barnes & Noble for $249.99. Considering the specs of the Galaxy Tab E Nook, many customers may find the price a bit high. The base model of the iPad mini 2 that has 16GB of storage is priced at $269 and is available directly from Apple.
