Gamers Can Now Buy Insurance In 'Metal Gear Solid V' With Real Money

With the latest update to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that went live Tuesday, gamers will be able to buy fake insurance for a real price.

Players can now purchase insurance for their base using their earned in-game currency or real-world money. The Forward Operating Base (FOB) insurance protects your base staff and materials if someone invades your base.

Players who sign up will be compensated for any materials and staff lost due to infiltrations at their base. When your base is infiltrated, the attacker gets the exact amount of materials and staff, but your original stash stays in your possession.

That said, not everything is covered. Insurance exemptions include items that aren't fully your property (such as abducted staff), wounded stage, staff used to delay in defense of the FOB, and nuclear weapons.

According to a forum on NeoGAF, the insurance is said to cost 50 coins for one day, 100 coins for three days, 200 for one week and 300 coins for two weeks. There is also a three-day trial.

FOB insurance can be purchased with MB coins that are either earned or purchased. MB coins bundles range from $0.99 to $49.99.

Along with insurance, the almost 1 GB patch also includes a new "Event FOB" mission mode, in which players have no risk of retaliation when attacking others — so you can abduct materials without fearing consequences and revenge.

Other features added include new Grade 7 weapons, night vision equipment, and new missions for Combat Deployment Online.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is available for PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.
