Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain already has some multiplayer elements in the form of the game's Forward Operating Base system, but come Oct. the game will be getting a full-fledged online multiplayer component.
Called Metal Gear Online, the mode will be a free update for those who own Metal Gear Solid V. So far three game modes have been revealed for MGO, with the first being Comm Control. This game type tasks one team with hacking a specific comm system on the map, while the opposing team fights to prevent it.
Another mode, Cloak and Dagger, tasks one team with infiltrating an enemy base defended with real players who won't hesitate to use deadly force. The third mode is Bounty Hunter. This mode works like a traditional team deathmatch mode but with a twist. As players rack up kills, a bounty is placed on their head that makes them worth more points and easier to pinpoint on the map. If the enemy team can manage to Fulton extract the player with the bounty, they'll score big points.
Players can customize their own personal character and choose from one of three classes. If you prefer sneaking around, the lightly armored infiltrator class will help you quickly navigate the map without a sound. Want to go in guns blazing? The heavy-armored enforcer class can take plenty of punishment and dish out even more. Then there is also the scout to consider. This class excels at watching fights from a distance, marking enemies and taking them out from a distance.
So far it looks to be a unique combination of run-and-gun gameplay mixed with the stealth seen in the Metal Gear Solid V's single-player. Metal Gear Online supports 16 players and will be released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Oct. 6. A PC release for Metal Gear Online is scheduled to release sometime next year.
