After disappointing thousands of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain fans with a major save-corrupting bug that deleted their game saves and wiped out their progress, Konami has finally rolled out a patch to fix the problems for PlayStation 4 and PC gamers.
The Japanese game developer has announced over Twitter that update 1.03 for The Phantom Pain is now live for the PlayStation 4, which was designed to issue a fix for the major glitch that erases all of a player's game saves if they choose Quiet as a buddy character for certain missions. The patch takes up 439MB in size, and will be followed by separate patches for the PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
The changelog for update 1.03 specifically says Konami has already fixed the issue where the game halts progression in the black screens when gamers clear Mission 29 and Mission 42. It also includes a fix for a separate issue where using certain controls in the tutorial for buying FOB also causes the game to halt progression. Meanwhile, PC gamers are also among the first to get some love from Konami, as they have also started receiving update 1.005 for The Phantom Pain. The update is 72.4MB in size and allows gamers to back up saved data so that when they cannot access their saves in the Steam Cloud, they can still continue with their hard-earned progress.
Konami says it continues to work on solutions for all affected platforms, including the Xbox One and previous-generation gaming consoles, which continue to be plagued by the Quiet bug. Considering the developer has already rolled out the first pair of fixes for the PlayStation 4 and PC, it is not likely going to take a long time before the firm also releases a fix for other platforms.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was unveiled earlier this month to much fanfare. Co-developed by Hideo Kojima of Kojima Productions, the open-world action adventure stealth video game is the eleventh and final installment in the Metal Gear series and serves as a prequel to Metal Gear V: Ground Zeroes.
