Let's be honest. Mockingjay Part 1 was a bit of a disappointment, especially as it followed the brilliant Catching Fire.
The same director helmed both movies — Francis Lawrence — so our expectations were high for Mockingjay. It wasn't without its moments, but its slow, dreary tone didn't match everything that came before. However, maybe that was because of Lionsgate's decision to split Suzanne Collins' last book in half, leaving all of the best and most exciting scenes waiting for the second half.
A year later, and Mockingjay Part 2 is nearly here. Based on the previews, it looks like Lawrence has saved all of his best work for the second half as well.
A new trailer has just gone online that showcases one big, epic, emotional shot after another. Katniss and the resistance finally bring the fight to President Snow's front yard in the Capitol, and there's a whole assortment of new visuals on which to feast your eyes. Genre favorites Michelle Forbes and Gwendoline Christie are visible, you'll get a great look at the Mutts sent to attack Katniss' team, there's lots of running, things blow up, people die in creative new ways and plenty more.
Check it out.
Is Lawrence back in form? Too early to say, but it sure does look exciting.
