With the increasing trend of OEMs leaning towards bigger smartphones, LG is gearing up to launch its LG G3 mini. However, contrary to what the name suggests, the LG G3 mini will not be a pint-sized phone as it will tout a 4.5-inch screen.
However, the "mini" moniker is quite misleading considering the iPhone 5s has a 4-inch screen. Moreover, the bigger sibling of the LG G3 mini, the LG G3, has a 5.5-inch display.
According to leaks, the successor to LG's G2 mini - the G3 mini - will be 0.2 inch smaller than its predecessor, which boasted a 4.7-inch screen. Apart from a 4.5-inch display, the LG G3 mini is anticipated to have a display resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
The latest information is courtesy of Indian export/import website Zauba, which has listed the details of the LG G3 mini under the codename "LG D722" in its database. The database shows South Korea as the country of origin for the "Sample Phone" and lists Delhi Air Cargo as the port of discharge. The value of the device is given as Rs. 13, 051 (approximately $217). The date of listing is shown as May 31, 2014, which was coincidentally four days prior to the launch of the bigger brother LG G3.
The leaked specifications also reveal that the LG G3 mini smartphone will tout a 5-megapixel primary camera, which is definitely a downgrade from the 8-megapixel camera on the predecessor LG G2 mini. The device is also set to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, which is clocked at 1.2GHz.
The LG G3 mini is also rumored to pack in 8GB of internal memory, but it is not known at this juncture if the smartphone will also have a microSD card that will support expandable memory. The LG G2 mini offers support for additional memory (up to 32GB) and, therefore, a strong possibility exists that the G3 mini will follow suit.
The LG G3 mini is also rumored to have a 2100 mAh battery, which is again a step down from the 2440 mAh battery of the G2 mini.
While the value of the G3 mini is given as Rs. 13,501, it is likely that the product will be offered in the market for slightly more post taxes and duties.
Considering the LG G3 is set for a July release in the U.S., it is likely that the smaller version will make its way to consumers in Q4 2014.
