LG G2 Mini set to see its release in April

LG will begin shipping its first "mini" smartphone beginning in April. The LG 2 Mini will initially go on sale in Russia and other markets will soon follow.

We saw LG announce its LG 2 Mini smartphone in early February and the company will start selling the G2 Mini in Russia beginning in April. As its name implies, the LG G2 Mini is a miniature version of the flagship G2 smartphone. For some reason, "Mini" in the Android world is really pushing the envelope, especially when you consider the LG G2 Mini's 4.7-inch display is considerably larger than Apple's iPhone 5's 4-inch display.

The LG G2 Mini makes use of the "Rear-Key" concept LG introduced with the LG G2. LG conducted a study and found that most people's fingers lie in the same spot when holding a smartphone, so the company decided to move the smartphone's power button and volume rocker to the rear of the smartphone. When holding the smartphone your index finger will be able to use the rocker to scroll web pages, messages, and more without having to touch the display.

LG designed the G2 Mini to have the same look and some of the features found on the flagship G2 in a mid-range device with a mid-range price. The G2 Mini packs in a 4.7-inch 960 x 540 display and has a pixel density of 234 pixels per inch (ppi). The handset is powered by a 1.2Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and Adreno 305 GPU. LG includes 8GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 32GB microSD cards.

Its camera capabilities include an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, panorama, and HRD modes and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. The smartphone does not include a 4G LTE radio, so users will have to deal with 3G data. The LG G2 Mini will ship with a 2,440 mAh battery.

LG has not announced if or when the LG G2 Mini will make its way to the U.S.. The company has only announced that it will begin selling the handset next month in Russia and roll it out to other regions.
