Nexus 6P Vs. Nexus 6 2014: What's The Difference?

Rumors of the next-generation Huawei-made Google smartphone, dubbed the Nexus 6P, have been doing the rounds for many months now. The upcoming handset will be the successor to the Nexus 6, released in 2014.

Here's a quick comparison of the original Nexus 6 2014 with the rumored specs of the Nexus 6P.

Screen and display

The Nexus 6 boasts a 5.96-inch AMOLED display with a pixel resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 and 493ppi. The rumored Nexus 6P is estimated to get a smaller 5.7-inch screen, while still packing in the same 2,540 x 1,440 pixel resolution.

Processor and RAM

A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7GHz and Adreno 420 powers the Nexus 6. The Nexus 6P is in turn expected to have a faster octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 1.9GHz and Adreno 430.

The Nexus 6 comes with 3 GB of RAM, and the Nexus 6p is likewise expected to get 3 GB of RAM.

Camera

The Nexus 6 is equipped with a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.

The Nexus 6p may get an 8MP front-facing camera. Various rumors have pointed to different primary sensors ranging from 12MP to 21MP for the upcoming device.

Battery

A 3,220mAh battery powers the 2014 Nexus flagship smartphone. If rumors are to be believed, then the Nexus 6P may get a slightly bigger 3,500mAh battery.

Internal Storage

The Nexus 6 is available in 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage models.

The demand for better storage options is increasing with users storing more media such as pictures, music and videos on their handsets. Speculation is high that the Nexus 6P may be available with 32 GB and 64 GB on-board storage as well as 128 GB.

Neither the Nexus 5 nor the Nexus 6 came with a microSD card. The Huawei Nexus 6P may also forgo a microSD card to increase the memory storage capacity.

Operating System

Normally, Nexus devices are the first to get the latest Android operating system. The Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 tablet were the first Android devices to come running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is highly likely that the Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X will be the first devices to come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

September 29 is just round the corner, so Nexus smartphone lovers will only have to wait for a few days before more details of the upcoming Nexus devices are made public.
