Google has officially announced it will be holding a press event on Sept. 29. This confirms previous reports that the company was planning a release event for Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the unveiling of the new LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P phablet.
Apple just released iOS 9 for current iOS owners and is about to release its next-generation iPhones: the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus. The smartphone and phablet's most notable upgrades come in the form of 3D Touch; a snappier 64-bit A9 chip; the M9 co-processor, which allows the devices to more efficiently track fitness data without affecting battery life; and the "Hey Siri" feature, which allows users to summon the onboard personal assistant without having to be plugged into a power source.
While the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will gain Siri's new trick, most Android users have already had a similar feature built into Android for years in the form of the Google Now Launcher.
Google is about to release its latest version of Android along with two new Nexus smartphones and phablets later this month. The company has officially announced it will be holding a press event on Sept 29. This backs up numerous reports claiming the company was planning to launch its latest flagship devices, which will also be the launch vehicles for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The OS is expected to be making its way to current Samsung, Motorola, HTC and LG devices and other Android licensees in the coming months.
The upcoming LG Nexus 5X and Huawel Nexus 6P (those are believed to be the official names for the handsets) have been making headlines over the past couple of weeks. A render of the Nexus 5X (2015) was shown on video and compared to popular smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5 and the iPhone 6, to give consumers an idea of how the size of the device would stack up to its rivals.
The Nexus 5X also leaked in a few color choices, including a white model and a black variant. The smartphone is built by LG and reportedly features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 809 processor, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, and 2,700 mAh battery.
The Huawei Nexus 6P has also seen its share of leaks, most recently revealing its specs, which are believed to include a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera, and 3,500 mAh battery.
