Nexus 5 Release Date Leaked For Late September

A new report claims to reveal when smartphone fans will be able to purchase the new version of the Nexus 5 for 2015 – the handset is expected to go on sale on Sept. 29.

Apple has sent out invites for its Sept. 9 press event where it will launch its highly anticipated iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. We recently reported that an official from China Telecom confirmed that the new smartphones would boast Force Touch displays, similar to the Apple Watch and hit store shelves between Sept. 19 and Sept. 25.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will be the first devices from Apple to ship with iOS 9 and are expected to go head-to-head with Google's upcoming Nexus smartphone built by LG and phablet built by Huawei, which will also be the first devices to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. We recently reported that one of those devices, the LG-built Nexus 5 for 2015, appeared on camera to compare its size with popular smartphones currently on the market.

The tip for the release date for the new LG Nexus version for 2015 claims the phone will actually hit store shelves in late September. It comes from a reliable source that has successfully revealed Nexus smartphone release dates in previous years. The handset will reportedly hit the Google Play Store on Sept. 29.

The Nexus 5 for 2015 is expected to feature a 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and offer 3 GB of RAM. The smartphone will reportedly include a 13-megapixel rear camera with the same OIS (optical image stabilization) technology used in the LG G4. The Nexus 5 is also said to sport a fingerprint sensor on its rear case and USB Type-C connector on the bottom of the device.

While the report provides a Sept. 29 release date for the Nexus 5 for 2015, it makes no mention of the Huawei-built Nexus phablet, which is expected to be Google's response to Apple's 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus.

As always, it's best to take reports of unannounced devices with a grain of salt. We'll keep you posted on any new Nexus smartphone and phablet news as it becomes available.
