Google is rumored to be working on two new Nexus smartphones that will be the launch vehicles for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. A concept video provides a glimpse of what the Nexus 5 2015 could look like.
Google is expected to follow Apple and Samsung by launching two new flagship smartphones in the coming months. Huawei is expected to build a large phablet, while LG will reprise its role in manufacturing an updated version of the Nexus 5. A new concept video of the Nexus 5 2015 has been created using the latest leaked information regarding the smartphone.
The Nexus 5 2015 concept video was created by Jermaine Smit and posted on YouTube, which can be seen below. The smartphone's design appears to be heavily influenced by Apple and Samsung, with a thin metal frame surrounding the handset. The Nexus 5 2015 is also shown in two color choices: black and white.
Like Apple and Samsung's latest smartphones, the Nexus 5 2015 in the video is shown with a protruding rear camera, likely because it is going to be ultra-thin. Audiophiles will certainly appreciate the front-facing stereo speakers.
The Google Nexus 5 2015 should appeal to smartphone fans who prefer having a device that doesn't verge on small tablet territory, like last year's Motorola-built Nexus 6, which features a large 5.96-inch display. Phablet fans won't be left out in the cold, as Huawei is reportedly building the Nexus 6 successor.
The most recent leaked specs for the LG-built Nexus 5 2015 claim the smartphone will ship with a 5.2-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD display and will be the first device to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. Marshmallow will fully support fingerprint recognition with a new feature called "Quick Fingerprint Access," which Samsung recently revealed will be coming to many of its current smartphones and tablets when it releases its Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. As you can see in the video, the fingerprint scanner will be located on the back of the Nexus 5 2015.
Other rumored features of the Nexus 5 2015 include a reversible USB Type C port on the bottom of the device, instead of the more common micro USB port that has graced almost every Android smartphone and tablet. The dimensions of the smartphone are believed to be 5.78 by 2.87 by 0.31 inches (146.9 by 72.9 by 8 mm).
Google is expected to officially launch the LG Nexus 5 2015 and Huawei Nexus phablet in October to coincide with the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Check out the video below to get an idea of what Google's next-generation Nexus might look like.
