In an Instagram post, Meadow Walker, the 16-year-old daughter of Paul Walker, said that she's launching a charity foundation to honor her late father and to share a piece of the actor with the world.
The Paul Walker Foundation will mirror Paul's strong passion for the ocean as it promises to provide grants and scholarships to deserving students who are pursuing an education in the field of marine science.
"Reflecting on my father, I found myself reflecting on his passions," said Meadow in her post in Instagram. "I wanted to start this foundation because I want to share that piece of him with the world. I want to share that part of him with others. I can't think of a better way to celebrate my father."
Meadow had just turned 15 when her father died in a car crash on Nov. 30, 2013. Moments prior to the accident, the actor was said to have attended a holiday toy drive for Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW), a disaster relief charity which he founded.
Paul's younger brother Cody Walker, who filled in as the late actor's body double in Furious 7, joined ROWW as its brand manager in 2014. The organization is honoring the late actor on his birthday by coming up with commemorative shirts dubbed "For Paul." The limited-edition shirts, which feature Paul's image in Haiti, are now for sale until Sept. 15 on the organization's official site. Full proceeds of the sale will be used to support the organization's disaster relief programs.
"The shirt is a way for all of us to remember Paul for something he was very proud of," said Cody. "Almost six years later, ROWW still exists and thousands of people around the world have been helped because of him. It's an amazing legacy and one I know he'd be proud of."
Paul was also the inspiration behind the single See You Again by rapper Wiz Khalifa and singer Charlie Puth. The song, which was written as a tribute to the late actor, was included in the soundtrack of Furious 7 and eventually became the fastest-selling single of 2015.
"It's been a long day without you, my friend. And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. We've come a long way from where we began. Oh, I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. When I see you again," goes the lyrics of the song's chorus.
