Amazon has an attractive offer in place for the unlocked Motorola Nexus 6 for T-Mobile or AT&T, currently selling the handset for just $490.
The Motorola-made Nexus 6 joined Google's Nexus family of devices last year, arriving as the first phablet in the lineup. The handset sports a massive 6-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (493 ppi), a slightly curved body and a sleek aluminum frame.
While previous Nexus smartphones may have focused on good specs at affordable prices, the Nexus 6 tells a different story. The phablet comes with high-end specs and features all around, shooting for the premium segment of the smartphone market — but it also launched at a higher price compared to its predecessors.
As a reminder, the Nexus 6 packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.7 GHz, paired with Adreno 420 graphics and a hefty 3 GB of RAM.
Other specs include 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage capacity, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front snapper, a 3,220 mAh battery and built-in Qi wireless charging capabilities, among the highlights. On the downside, the phablet doesn't have microSD support for expandable storage.
As expected, the Nexus 6 also offers the neat Nexus experience, which brings a pure Android OS and timely updates whenever Google releases a new version of the software.
The unlocked version of the 32 GB Nexus 6 normally retails for $859.99 on Amazon, but the retailer is now selling the device for just $490.06. This marks a massive discount of $369.93, i.e. 43 percent.
It's worth pointing out, however, that this version of the smartphone will not be compatible with all mobile operators. The unlocked Nexus 5 will work just fine with GSM carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as with various GSM SIM cards, but it will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Virgin Mobile or Boost.
The heavy discounts for the Nexus 6 are likely related to the fact that Google should launch a new generation soon, in October. The company reportedly has two new Nexus smartphones in the works, one in collaboration with Huawei and the other made by LG — so it makes sense for the existing iteration to drop its price tag ahead of new product launches.
