ESPN SportsCenter commercials are known for their clever, humorous takes on subjects involving athletes.
Well, they just scored a touchdown with their newest clip — this one involving fun-loving New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, whose settling down in this commercial goes against the party animal persona he has built over the years, in hilarious fashion.
Known for being a smashmouth football player on the field with a fun-loving personality off the field, this SportsCenter clip has Gronk showing off his Super Bowl ring as if it were an engagement ring.
Veteran SportsCenter personalities Neil Everett, Stan Verrett and Kenny Mayne all crowd around an ESPN office cubicle, fawning over the rock of a ring and serving up comments like "it's gorgeous," "it's regal" and "it's shiny, it's beautiful."
"Thanks... yeah, I love it," Gronk says in return. "I don't think I want it any bigger, though."
Rubbing his palms, Verrett says, "So tell us the whole story."
Gronk replies: "Well, I went and gave em my size and a few months later, we had a ring ceremony."
Once the fellas congratulate Gronkowski and the hulking tight end walks away from the cubicle, the true gossiping begins just as it likely does among co-workers in cubicles across America.
After Gronk is gone, Mayne calls the ring "tacky," Verrett question if it's real and Everett wonders what he was thinking, before Mayne with a deadpan delivery says, "too much."
Pretty clever. ESPN hits and rarely misses with these spots.
