Nolan North Is The New Voice of Ghost In 'Destiny'

Destiny fans might notice something a little different when they play the game's latest expansion, "The Taken King," at least in the voice of Ghost. That's because Ghost's voice actor was recast by Bungie — so now, Peter Dinklage is out and Nolan North is in.

Dinklage's take on the character has been a source of contention for fans of Destiny since the game's initial release — some even accused the actor of phoning it in. Apparently, Bungie paid attention and soon, Ghost's voice will belong to North. In fact, Bungie is so committed to having a new voice for Ghost that North will re-record all of Ghost's previous dialogue in the game, too.

Of course, Bungie didn't come out and admit that they changed Ghost's voice actor for these reasons, saying instead that the use of North allows the game to have consistency in the character's voice.

For those who haven't played Destiny, Ghost is a small robotic companion that also serves as Destiny's narrator. In "The Taken King," Bungie plans on expanding the role even more, so it's likely that this also played into their decision to bring North onboard. He has relevant experience, too, and is most known for his voice work on the Uncharted and Assassins Creed games.

North spoke to Game Informer about how he tackled the new role.

"They really wanted me to put my stamp on it," said North. "They let me bring what I wanted to the role. You have to give it your own spin. For that reason, I specifically said I didn't want to hear anything that someone else had done, so that I didn't have some preconceived notion of what it has to be. Instead, I just gave it my stamp, and let them direct me accordingly."

North added that he plans on committing to the role — making himself available whenever Bungie needs new voice work done for Ghost. North seems to have a solid idea of what his character is all about.

"It's interesting, because at one point, they find another Ghost that's been killed," said North. "A Ghost is not just something that can be turned back on. It has an idea of ending. It understands mortality. It has a vested interest in helping you succeed."

Destiny's "The Taken King" arrives on September 15.
