Destiny is known for many things: high-powered weapons, over-the-top powers, Peter Dinklage and hours of grinding are all a part of the Destiny experience. However, there's one thing that sets it apart from just about every other video game on the market these days: the leaks.
Yes, a lot of games are leaked early these days — that's just the nature of the Internet — but Destiny is on an entirely different level. It all started months before the game was released, and the trend's continued all throughout the game's first year in players' hands. Destiny's latest expansion, The Taken King is no different, and Bungie's latest DLC has already been the subject of a number of different leaks.
Well, it's time to add another leak to the ever-growing pile: The Taken King's preorder bonuses have made their way online early. GameInformer first spotted a GameStop ad for the expansion's exclusive content — and in a surprising move, Bungie confirmed that the leaked information was accurate.
So ... what can Day One players expect to get?
The SUROS Arsenal Pack is actually pretty hefty: the pack includes the new "Minimalist" armor shader, the SUROS fire emblem and (most importantly) three new primary weapons, all with specialized skins and Perks. There's no way of telling how the Auto Rifle, Pulse Rifle and Scout Rifle play just yet — but with The Taken King's massive weapon rebalancing on the way, there's really no way of telling how any of the game's weapons will work after the DLC drops.
Usually, when this sort of thing leaks, no one can know for sure if it's actually real or not — this is usually because developers refuse to make a statement after something leaks. That's why we said earlier that Bungie's response was surprising: in a news post released earlier today, the Destiny team confirmed that the leak was real and that all of the info was accurate:
"Ever had a secret you couldn't wait to tell? Maybe you let it slip before it was time? You tell a friend. They tell a friend. The next you know, The Legend Blue is talking about it on Reddit. It happens to everyone.
This morning, some information about a SUROS Arsenal Pack made a surprise appearance on the Internet! The rumor is true, but we'd like to clarify a few details."
The leak goes on to clarify that the SUROS pack will be available in-game to all who preorder as soon as The Taken King launches this September — not only that, but the DLC pack will be available to everyone starting on Jan. 1, 2016. Basically, if you don't feel like preordering, don't worry — you won't be permanently locked out of any content.
Preorders or not, there's still a bit of a wait left before anyone can get their hands on the SUROS pack: Destiny: The Taken King is set to launch on Sept. 15.
