The iconic 1986 film Hoosiers is as big a part of Indiana's basketball lore as Larry Bird and the Indiana Pacers themselves.
That's precisely why the Pacers will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the feel-good sports movie by wearing the film's "Hickory" uniforms as alternate jerseys during select games in the upcoming 2015-16 NBA season.
The Pacers and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios announced the partnership Tuesday morning (July 21) via a press release statement, as reported by ESPN.
"Our team will be honored to wear the Hickory uniforms because of the attention it will bring to the storied history of Indiana basketball and the success of that movie," said Bird, the Pacers president of basketball operations. "Hoosiers takes us all back to a special place and time."
The Pacers have already been modeling what have to be the coolest alternate jerseys for next season via their official Instagram team account—as seen here with point guard George Hill.
The iconic film, which starred Dennis Hopper and Gene Hackman, documented the unlikely fairy-tale run of little Milan High School en route to the 1954 Indiana state basketball championship.
"Obviously, we revere the film, but more importantly we believe our organization, especially our players, embody the core message of the story—by coming together as a team, there is nothing that can't be accomplished," Todd Taylor, the team's senior vice president for Pacers Sports & Entertainment, added in a statement.
It will be hard to top the Pacers' alternate uniforms next season.
