Gamers Report 'Witcher 3' Patch 1.07 Affects Frame Rates In Xbox One And PS4

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saw its latest v1.07 patch recently and it apparently affects the frame rate of the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

The latest patch brought a slew of notable changes and enhancements, but the impact it has on the frame rate of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a negative one.

Patch 1.07 undoubtedly adds an impressive range of improvements and fixes, but some areas need work. Reports from gamers started to pile up soon after the patch went live, with many complaining of worse frame rates after the update. Eurogamer's Digital Foundry now confirms such issues, offering a detailed technical breakdown of the latest patch v1.07.

The breakdown reveals that the patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on both the PS4 and the Xbox One had a negative impact on the frame rates, particularly in more intensive areas such as Crookback Bog, where both the consoles locked at 20fps.

"Essentially, gameplay on Xbox One now appears to rely on a similar double-buffer v-sync set-up to the PS4 game, locking its frame-rate to 20fps during these lulls in performance," Digital Foundry explains.

Consequently, the reading resulted in the graph was "consistently lower" on patch 1.07 compared to the previous 1.05. Following the same route through the bog further shows that frame rate can drop up to 8fps on the latest version compared to the previous patch.

Digital Foundry further points out that even when moving through Novigrad's central city or some countryside roads keeps triggering single-frame stutters once every few seconds.

Nevertheless, despite the fact that patch 1.07 may have a couple of issues, the latest version also brings a slew of neat improvements and fixes. It's the most sizeable update so far, weighing in at a hefty 7.3GB on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The latest patch doesn't seem to affect the PC version of the game, albeit other issues might ensue. For instance, a number of gamers who purchased The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PC port from Steam or via CDProjektRed's GOG website reported that their achievements are not working properly. At the same time, other players said the patch didn't make it to all European countries.
