Don't Expect To See The Death Star In 'Star Wars: Battlefront'

The number of playable levels in Star Wars: Battlefront has been a source of a lot of criticism since the game was introduced. First, EA announced that the game would take place entirely in-atmosphere, which was followed by buzz that the game would only contain eight multiplayer maps.

While that rumor was eventually debunked, the seed of mistrust had already been planted — gamers have been wary of EA's plans ever since.

That said, a strong E3 showing has put the game back into most gamer's good graces.

There are still lingering questions about the amount of content, but most of what the game has to offer looks to be on the right track — for the most part, it feels like Star Wars: Battlefront can do no wrong.

Then again, there's always a chance that EA and DICE will leave out one of the most influential locations in the franchise. In fact, that's already happened: EA confirmed that the Death Star will not be making an appearance in Star Wars: Battlefront.

That's right: soldiers and pilots from a galaxy far, far away won't be able to fight it out on the Death Star. It's surprising, as previous games in the series featured a number of different Death Star-based maps (even if they were far from the best levels in their respective games).

What EA has established is that Star Wars: Battlefront will feature four different planets (with a fifth coming shortly after release), each containing multiple multiplayer arenas. So far, fans have gotten a glimpse of Hoth, Endor and Tatooine and Sullest, while the planet Jakku has yet to be revealed. Granted, these locations are some of the most popular in the series, but it seems like passing on the Death Star is a bit of a missed opportunity.

EA also recently went into why the AT-AT walkers aren't player-controlled, though the publisher's explanation was far more detailed.

Of course, it's entirely possible that the Death Star will return as part of the game's downloadable content... but until EA releases something official, it doesn't look like fans will be moonlighting on a fully functional battle station anytime soon.

There's still a few months left before the game's launch: Star Wars Battlefront hits store shelves on November 17.
