EA is moving full steam ahead on making a new generation of Star Wars video games, starting with this holiday's Star Wars Battlefront. But there is another Star Wars game currently in development at EA's Visceral Studios that we know almost nothing about: until now.
Uncharted writer Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog to join EA last year, where she announced she was working on the publisher's next big Star Wars game. Voice actor Nolan North (who voices Uncharted's main character Nathan Drake) is friends with Hennig, and recently spoke about her next project at Tampa's Metrocon 2015 during a discussion about Uncharted 4.
North discussed how Hennig's departure from Naughty Dog effected Uncharted 4's development before moving on to talk about what she is up to now. YouTube user mrgeekmeout captured the panel discussion and uploaded it to the web, which you can watch below.
"And if you're a big fan of Amy Hennig and her styles of stories, the big thing about her is she's gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand-new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted," he says in the video. "And I happen to know a lot about it, and it's going to be awesome."
Does that mean North knows details about the project because he is friends with Hennig, or might he be involved in Visceral's upcoming game? We don't know for sure, but North had more to say about the game when a fan asked if the unannounced project was the canceled Star Wars 1313 project.
"No, it's different," he responded. "But it's along the same lines; 1313, I actually did the first mocap tests for that."
If you don't remember Star Wars 1313, it was an ambitious third person action game announced by Lucasarts back in 2012. A year later the game was canceled when Disney purchased Lucasfilm and elected not to continue development on the title.
Just from the trailers for the game, Star Wars 1313 certainly looked to have plenty in common with the Uncharted franchise, as the player character dove behind crates, engaged in firefights and took part in large scale action set pieces. North saying the game is along the same lines as Star Wars 1313 and that Hennig is bringing the style of Uncharted to a galaxy far, far away gives us our best idea yet of what this new Star Wars game might be like, likely a third person action adventure title. We will have to wait for an official announcement to learn more.
In other Star Wars game news, EA will soon be conducting a closed alpha test for Star Wars Battlefront on PC, with invites going out now.
