Star Wars Battlefront is one of the most anticipated games of the year. It's probably a good idea then for EA to make sure that the game will work properly out of the gate, especially given the publisher's rocky launch history with the Battlefield series.
Gamers can apply to participate in the Star Wars Battlefront alpha from now until 7:59 eastern time on Monday, June 30. The alpha will only be on PC and will be done through EA's Origin service. Applying for the alpha doesn't guarantee you access, as EA in an email provided to Polygon says space in the closed alpha is very limited.
"The purpose of the Star Wars Battlefront Closed Alpha is to perform a number of technical tests that will help the team at DICE as they continue the development of the game," reads the email.
EA is also including minimum system requirements in the email. Below is what you'll need if your compter is to run the Star Wars Battlefront alpha:
CPU: Quad Core CPU e.g. Intel Core i5-2300 @ 2.8 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.2 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64-bit operating system required)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 with 2 GB of Video Memory
As is standard practice for an alpha, EA notes that character progress and unlocks achieved in the alpha won't carry over to the full game. EA is also reminding players that the alpha is not representative of the final game, and that there will possible issues like server lag and downtime.
You can sign up for the alpha on the Star Wars Battlefront website. No word yet on when the closed alpha will actually begin or how long it will last, but expect details soon after the sign-up period ends.
