Red Bull may give you wings, but if you open a can of the energy drink this summer, it gives you something else, too: extra experience points in Destiny, along with a new quest from the upcoming game expansion, The Taken King.
Those with a Red Bull code can get the new quest for The Taken King on Sept. 15, the day the expansion becomes available. However, if you don't drink Red Bull, you'll have to wait for this new quest until next year.
All you have to do is look for cans of Red Bull that have images from Destiny on it (along with eSports gamer Michael "Flamesword" Chaves), pop open the can and get your code and redeem it online.
The official Red Bull Quest website calls the new mission "epic" and mentions that it has multiple stages. It will also "test the speed and strategic abilities of Destiny players in new ways," whatever that means.
As far as the extra XP goes, the code also gives you a 50 percent increase in XP for a total of 30 minutes gameplay. There's just one caveat, though: you must redeem your Red Bull code by July 31 to get the quest.
There's already been some outrage from the gaming community over The Taken King, especially after players complained that the last expansion for House of Wolves seemed disappointing. However, Bungie promises that this is the biggest Destiny expansion yet and promises its worth the $39.99 price tag. There is also a collector's edition that features the full version of Destiny and all expansion packs, along with some in-game goodies, available for $79.99.
However, gamers have already balked at the $39.99 price tag, which is steeper than most expansion packs for games and the same price as the base version of the game. Bungie tried to defend the price point, but many gamers are not convinced.
There is just one drawback of the Red Bull Quest. Destructoid reports that the specially marked Destiny cans are only available at 7-Eleven, so if you don't have one of those near you, you're out of luck. Expect to see the cans sometime next month through August (although cans found in August will only net extra XP and not the new quest).
