If there's one run that exemplifies Marshawn Lynch's brutal rushing style, it's the reckless-abandon ground attack he had against the New Orleans Saints in 2010. The no-holds-barred run was something straight out of a video game, with multiple Saints being disposed of along the way.
And now, Beast Mode is going digital. The Seattle Seahawks' star and arguably the most-violent rusher the NFL has ever seen will appear as a character in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops III, slated for a Nov. 6 release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Following Lynch for a feature story, ESPN The Magazine documented every step of Beast Mode becoming the first athlete to appear as a character in a Call of Duty video game for the June 22 issue.
"He better have dreads, gold teeth and my distinctive walk," Lynch warned Activision, the makers of the upcoming Call of Duty title, as reported by ESPN. "Then people will be like, 'Oh, that's really Beast Mode right there!' "
ESPN followed Lynch as he underwent motion capture, face scanning and 3D mesh data imaging en route to building his character.
Lynch says he has long been a fan of the video game series, from his college days all the way up to the present.
Activision and Lynch alike were happy with the final product.
"I mean, he's a guy who fills stadiums, crushes competitors and has a Beast Mode. What could be more COD than that?" Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg told ESPN.
Added Lynch: "You're shooting up everything but always fighting for a bigger picture. The whole game is Beast Mode."
He even feels being in Call of Duty is a bigger accomplishment than winning the Super Bowl.
"I've been in the Super Bowl, movies, music videos, Madden," he continued. "But to have your own character in Duty is, I mean, it's almost like you arrived."
